Running Assessments
Individualized Running Assessments are essential for any runner, novice or competitive, looking to overcome injury, improve running performance, and/or prevent injury recurrence.
Our Running Specialists are all avid runners who have completed specialist training via The Running Clinic. They all have a varied running experience including marathons, half marathons, triathlons, duathlons, trail races, and collegiate athletics. They combine their personal running knowledge with their background in physiotherapy (specifically biomechanical analysis) to address Failed Load Transfer, Muscle Imbalance, and Joint Restriction. They strive to identify the injured tissue, determine the root cause, and provide appropriate treatment to correct, restore, and improve running mechanics.
Why Get A Running Assessment?
Our assessments are designed for runners of all levels. Here’s who can benefit:
- New Runners: Start strong with proper biomechanics to prevent injuries. Learn about training plans, footwear, strength exercises, and nutrition to build a solid foundation.
- Injured Runners (Chronic Pain): Struggling with persistent pain? Slow-motion video analysis pinpoints compensatory patterns and tissue overload, uncovering the root cause of your injury.
- Injured Runners (Acute): Sudden injuries often stem from changes in training, footwear, or stress. We identify these triggers and recommend adjustments to reduce tissue load.
- Performance-Driven Runners: Want to set a personal record? We optimize your running economy with tailored insights via video analysis, which may include shoe comparisons if desired.
What To Expect During Your Running Assessment
Our comprehensive assessment is divided into three key components:
- Subjective History
We dive into your medical and running history, current training plan, footwear, and personal goals to understand your unique needs. - Objective Evaluation
Through functional screening, range-of-motion tests, strength assessments, and injury-specific clinical tests, we gather critical data about your body’s mechanics. - Running Gait Analysis
Using real-time and slow-motion video on a treadmill, we analyze your running form to identify inefficiencies or injury risks. - At the end of the Assessment: We explain our findings in detail and create a personalized treatment plan. This may include:
- Tips to boost running efficiency
- Biomechanical adjustments
- Customized training modifications
- Injury-specific exercises
- Additional physiotherapy or chiropractic care
Follow-Ups: 30-minute sessions may be recommended to monitor progress, refine your plan, and ensure exercises are performed correctly for maximum impact.
What To Bring To Your Running Assessment:
- Waterbottle
- Running attire: shorts, Tank top and or sport bra, running shoes,
